Ginger Gems

Home Economics:

Last Friday what I did in-home economics was we have to make Ginger Gems. Ginger gems are so tasty once you finish baking it. But first, the first task that we have to do was to get out all the equipment that we need to make the Ginger Gems. Once we have finished getting all the equipment out, we now need to get all the ingredients. Making Ginger Gems is so easy to make, here is the direction.

Direction:
  1.  1.Preheat oven to 200 degrees( Fan bake). Place the gem iron (Muffin Tins) in the oven to heat.
  2.  Cream 100g of the butter with sugar, ginger, and cinnamon.
  3. Beat in golden syrup and egg, adding a tablespoon or two flour to prevent curding
  4. Sift flour and baking powder.
  5.  Dissolve baking soda in the milk. Mix flour into butter mixture alternately with the milk.
  6. Remove gem iron from the oven and put it on the wooden board.
  7. Add a half teaspoon of remaining butter for each moulds or hallow. It will Zizzle.
  8.  Fill moulds with batter, bake for 15 minutes, until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool slightly then remove the gems to cool on a wire rack.

Make sure to try it your self because it really tastes good. The texture of the Ginger Gems that we did was soft inside and crunchy outside. The colour was golden brown and the smell was very enjoyable.

  2. Lars, I like your photos, especially the mise en place photo. I agree with Mrs Hindson's comment about the step photos. I would have liked to see a photo of the original Gem Iron that you were shown in class. So glad you enjoyed the taste of your Ginger Gems.
