Tane Mahuta/ Gym Sport

Today in Tane Mahuta we carry on cleaning the outdoor classroom, We throw some furniture that we don't need or can't use anymore. After a while, our Tane mahuta helper calls us because we need to transfer some of the branches in the compose area. We stop moving the braches because it was almost morning tea.

After moving some furniture and braches, the bell ring so that means we need to go to the gym sports. If you don't know what a gym sport is basically just fitness with some sports mix to it. On gym sports, we did a beep challenge, beep challenge is when you run back and forth in the court. The fitness is like police training.

We separated the scarp metal because we wanted to trade the scarp metal to money. If we trade the metal to the junkshop we can probably get some good amount of money. The Metal cost 2.00 to 4.00 per kilo.

Summurasing

In my reading group, we are learning how to summarise a story. If you want to summarise a story you should always use When, Where, Why, and how there are very important because if you don't have that in your story, your story will probably not be interesting to read. If you are summarising you are not allowed to tell the whole story, Why? so that you will not give all the information in the story.

This is my example of summarising.....

Avengers end game

The Avengers end game is the most successful movie in the world right now. Once they release the end game movie they’ve earned about 1.80 billion NZD in just three days after they release it, that is a lot of many.

Messi banned for three months

The world's best footballer which is Messi has been ban for 3 months after claiming the Copa America was “corrupt”. Messi was fined $60,000 for the South American Football. Messi has been banned for 3 months so that means that he will miss a lot of games.

World snail racing - racing champs held in the UK

In the Uk people race over 160 snails, they sometimes bring their own snail to the race. If people don’t have they’re own snail they can choose one from the competition organizers. After waiting for so many minutes, the champion of the world snail racing is Sammy the snail. He was raced by a teacher named Maria Welby.

How to make a hangi

This is how you make Hangi, the steps are just very easy to do. I would probably like to try Hangi because I really like meat and vegetable. After you cook the Hangi you have to gather all your family so that you guys can eat together.

If you don't know what a hangi it is a traditional New Zealand Māori method of cooking food using heated rocks buried in a pit oven, also called an umu. It is still used for large groups on special occasions.

This is how you make it...

NZ Singer and band

Today in music we had to research about a NZ Singer and Band. The Solo singer that I chose was  Stan Walker, he was a solo singer in New Zealand and won an award about the rose to fame in Australian Idol. The Band that I chose was the DD Smash they were a band from New Zealand. They won awards in 1983. They were formed in 1980.

What we did in the first day of music. (Instrumental Industries)

So on the first day of music, we have 4 questions to answer.  This is the first question that asks us, What is music? what types are they? Music is something that is created by rhythm and beat to create something meaningful.  There are many different types of music they Popular music, Folk music Musical theatre, Classical music, Jazz-Rock, Hip hop, music Singing, Blues, Country music, Pop music, Heavy metal, Rhythm, and blues Orchestra Dance.

After that, we have to think of another title for our music Hurumanu. The title that we chose for our hurumanu was Instrumental Industries. After we choose our tittle for Hurumanu we have to draw a ukulele and make a diagram about it.

This is what I have drawn...

Climate change issue

My Investigation

Aim: To look at how I can prevent climate change in the future.

1. Complete the activity 'Ecological Handprint'.
2. Complete the activity 'Carbon Footprint'.

3. Write down your 10 changes to climate change below. Using ideas from the Ecological Hand print and Carbon Footprint list 10 changes that you can make to stop Climate change?

  1.   You should turn off my light when I'm gonna sleep.
  2.   You should eat less meat.
  3.   I Walk or scooter to school.
  4.   I need to talk to my parent about protecting the environment.
  5.   Try to recycle everything you can.
  6.   Try to plant more trees.
  7.   Try to not travel a lot.
  8.   Try not to a lot of fast food.
  9.   Unplug your electronics when you are gonna sleep.
  10.   Don't throw your rubbish in the ground.

Community impact project (C.I.P) Tane Mahuta

Every Wednesday we go outside to do something in our garden. We sometimes plant some vegetable so that when it grows we have something to eat. We are trying to fix the back of the school so that we can plant trees and other plants that we can grow to save the environment.

We are trying to clean the back of the school because we would like to build an outdoor classroom for learning or free time. We started moving the object inside the greenhouse so that we can make some room for the new furniture. We also draw a plan for the new outdoor classroom, so that when the area is clean we can start designing.

The people that don't want to help us, move to the other side of the field and they remove the old tires that were used for gardening. We have been doing Tane Mahuta for about 4 weeks now, we hope that before we change to another CIP we can finish the project that we want.

Climate change and the future

Hurumanu: Climate Change and the future

Aim; To look at the different ways we can prevent climate change in the future.

Changing Our Future

Name 3 fossil fuels?
  • Coal
  • Oil
  • Gas

What is the cost? It is the cost of carbon dioxide.

The CO2 level has soured since when? Since the Industrial Revolution started.

What are the effects in the UK?

  1.    Heatwaves
  2.     Species can disappear.
  3.  19 out of 20 days warmest day.
How many climate refugees will there be in Britain by 2050? There will be 200 million refugees.

When will Fairborn be flooded? Sometimes in the next 26 years.

What are some of the other things that will be 'swallowed by the waves'?
  1.  1.5 m homes in England
  2.  100,000 home at risk from coastal
  3. 1,000 toxic sites
How can we stop climate change?
  1.    Removing the gas emission
  2.   Plant 1.5 billion trees
  3.     Running a car using only solar and batteries.
What ideas are school children having about climate change?
  1.    Protesting
  2.    Not having children
  3.    try to do more biking or scooter
What is the atmosphere called?

a Waste Dump.

What is the last statement the reporter made?

We know what we need to do, we have got the technology. What we lack is the
Political will.

What places will be affected? Various places in New Zealand

What else do we need to think about? Building a structure where is predicted that the sea level will rise up to.

What other places around NZ will be affected? Any of the pacific island

What does this do to our drinking water? It makes our water saltier.

What are the main concerns?
  1. Coastal Erosion
  2. Coastal Flooding

What can we do?

  1. Take out the amount of fossil fuel that we have.
  2.  Using a vehicle that is not using fossil fuel.
  3.  Building a house that's designed in a way that it doesn't waste energy.

What is the one, silver bullet solution? There is no idea, how to solve this climate change.

What is the mix of things we need to start doing?
  1.  Using renewable energy.
  2.  Solar heating
  3.   Using none depended on fossil fuels vehicle.
What are 3 others you can think of?
  1.  Using a bike or scooter to work/ school
  2.  Reduce the amount of rubbish
  3.  Recycle object that you can use again.
My Investigation
Where does our food come from?

  • Choose your favorite food.

  1. Upload a picture of it.
Related image
  1. Draw a picture of it on A4.

On your blog answer the following questions.

  • Where does the food come from (e.g. is it from another province or country, was it purchased or made locally)? The Spanish bread is from the Philippines.
  • How many kilometers away did the food travel to get to you? You can make the food here in New Zealand.
  • What are the main ingredients?
  • 3 cups flour.
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons instant dry yeast.
  • 1/4 cup sugar.
  • 1 teaspoon salt.
  • 3/4 cup milk.
  • 3 tablespoons butter - - or margarine, melted.
  • 1 egg.
  • How is the food packaged?
  • What resources do you need to produce this food item (e.g. land, water, oil, food, etc.)? You have to use oil for the dough.
  • Would this item have been processed? It could be processed but however, most are made by hand.
  • Is there anything unique or significant about the food item (e.g. fair-trade, local)? By using the local ingredient to make the Spanish bread it could reduce the amount of carbon footprint that is used.
  • What else do you notice about this food that affects its climate friendliness? Some ingredient is processed.
  • Do you think this food is climate-friendly (Circle)?       (YES)  NO
  • Why? Yes, Because the ingredient that it needs is already here so you don't need to buy it in another country.
  • If no, what would be a better alternative?

Wind speed - Making an anemometer.

Anemometer

MATERIALS

  1. 4 styropoam cups
  2.   Pencil
  3.   Pin
  4. 4x  straws
  5. Tape

STEPS

  1.   Make the straw into an x shape.
  2.   Put the pin in the middle of the x.
  3.   Pin into the eraser of the pencil.
  4.   Stick the cup in the straw but the cup needs to be in the same way.
  5.   Put some tape on the cup so it will not fall or turn sideway.
  6.   Finally play with it.
Once you have made an anemometer we are going to record the wind speed.

Group size: 5

You will need:

Anemometer (above)

Roles:

  • Timekeeper
  • Counter
  • Recorder
  • Anemometer Manager
  • Wind generator
  1. Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
  2. When the timekeeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
  3. If possible, repeat the above step four (4) times and record the average number of spins on the chart.

FINDINGS

  • Record how many times it spins using the table below.
You will need to create the wind yourself by blowing. Get 4 different wind speeds by blowing.

You will need to time them and count the number of spins.

Time IntervalNumber of Spins
1.10sec       8
2.10sec       12
3.10sec7
4.10sec       13
Time IntervalNumber of Spins
1.1m       48
2.1m       72
3.1m42
4.1m       78
  • Can you make a statement connecting the number of spins of your anemometer and the speed of the wind?

CONCLUSION:

What happens is when we blow our Anemometer in ten-second the number of spins that we got in the first try was 8, so then we try to do it again but we went outside. The second time we try itgot

Energy science project

Investigation.

Research the following Biomass fuels. You will need to:

Write a definition of fuel.
Write 8 sentences about fuel.
  • How is it made? The plants and the tree absorbed the sun, then once it absorbed the sun energy, it will give the plant and the tree a renewable source of energy.
  • Where is it made? The biomass is produced by gasification in countries such as Sweden, Australia, and the United state.
  • What is it made with? The biomass is made from a material that comes from living organisms, such as plants and animals.
  • What countries use it? Ireland, USA, and Sweden
  • What uses will it have in the future? It will save a lot of energy and we might probably won't burnt fossil fuel anymore.
Place 1 image of the fuel.

Biomass Fuel types.

Name: Agricultural crops and wood fuels.
Definition: The cereal crops can be used as a fuel for the production of heat.

Research: Agricultural crops are a plant's that are grown by a human. Wood fuels are a fuel, such as firewood, charcoal, chips, sheets, pellets and sawdust.

Uses: It can be used as a fuel for the production of heat.
