Recycling

Hurumanu - Recycling

Aim: To learn practical ways of recycling so that we can make our world a better place.

How can we prevent climate change though recycling these products?

Plastics: Plastic means that you are not realizing carbon dioxide gas because you don't burn anything.
Cycling or walking: It means that there will be no co2 gonna be release at the atmosphere.
Paper: Recycling paper means we don't cut down fewer trees.
Steel: It means that you don't need to burn coal to release co2.

Video questions:

What is Zero Waste? One of the quickest and cheapest way a community can immediately reduce climate impact.

What can we do on the planet?

  1. Reduce
  2. Redesign
  3. Repair
  4. Re-use
What do we need to recycle? We need to recycle a plastic bottle, Plastic bags, Styrofoam cup,

What does recycling do? Recycling helps the planet earth to get less co2 and trash.

How much of our rubbish is food scraps? I think it is 50%

What does soil do to carbon dioxide in the atmosphere? The soil brings back down the carbon dioxide to the ground.

What do we need to do?
  1. Make P_________s.
  2. Have Zero ___Waste________

What is a carbon footprint? Carbon footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide releases to the atmosphere and as a result of activities of a particular community.

How can you make your Carbon Footprint smaller?

ENERGY SAVING TIPS FILM

Name 4 of the tips.
  1.   Turn of your Microwave
  2. Always turn off the lights in your room if your sleeping.
  3. Drive less.
  4. Plant a garden to help bring down the co2.

AT WHAT RATES DO DIFFERENT ITEMS DECOMPOSE?

MY INVESTIGATION.

Image result for rates of decomposition

Choose 5 items from the list and investigate them.
Paper-  Paper usually get completely decomposes for about two to six weeks. To build a paper you need to cut down trees so that means if we keep making paper, the less tree we have the less oxygen we're gonna have.
Leaves- Leaves breakdown at 6-12 months, they take that long because they don't contain the nitrogen to speed up the content.
plastic bottle- Plastic bottle take about 450 years to degrade, One of the solutions that I have is just recycle the plastic bottle or make something out of it that help earth to be better.
Aluminum can- Aluminum can take 200-500 years to break down. If we keep putting trash everywhere then we have a possibility to have a big flood.
Plastic bag- Every plastic bag that we have to take 10-1000 years to decompose. If the Plastic bag doesn't break down it slowly go down to the soil and releasing some toxic chemical.
You need to answer three questions.

Name: Styrofoam

  1. How long do they take to decompose? It never decomposes.
  2. What resource / fossil fuel are they made from? It is made of petroleum or crude oil.
  3. How is this resource recycled? It is put to a machine then it will get crushed down.
  4. How does this object contribute to climate change? When it's heated the styrofoam release toxic chemical to the food.
Name: Aluminum can

  1. How long do they take to decompose? it can take for about 200-500 years to break down.
  2. What resource/fossil fuel are they made from? The Bauxite is mined from the earth's crust and processed into aluminum.
  3. How is this resource recycled? Image result for how is the aluminum recycled The consumer throws aluminum cans and foil into a recycle bin.
  4. How does this object contribute to climate change? The aluminum industry continues its work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Name: Leaves

  1. How long do they take to decompose? it takes 6-12 months to break down.
  2. What resource/fossil fuel are they made from? Fossil fuels are hydrocarbons, primarily coal, fuel oil or natural gas, formed from the remains of dead plants and animals.
  3. How is this resource recycled? The easiest way to recycle fallen leaves is simply to leave them alone.
  4. How does this object contribute to climate change?
Name: Plastic bags

  1. How long do they take to decompose? It takes 10-10,000 years.
  2. What resource/fossil fuel are they made from? Its is made by oil
  3. How is this resource recycled? It gets platen by a machine
  4. How does this object contribute to climate change?  By placing them in the landfill.
Name: Paper

  1. How long do they take to decompose? 2-6 weeks
  2. What resource/fossil fuel are they made from? The paper is made put of wood.
  3. How is this resource recycled? The Paper is taken from the bin and deposited in a large recycling container along with paper from other recycling bins.
  4. How does this object contribute to climate change? Its something that the science is working on.

Puppets ( Drama )

Last week we started to make puppets on drama but I didn't really finish because we need to change to our p.e gear to versus the New Brighton basketball team. I will try to finish my puppets as quickly as I can so that I and my group can be performed. Our aim on drama is How does eating healthy food help all 4 aspects of the Aurora, Which is Taha Tinana, Taha Whanau, Taha Hinengaro and Taha Wairua.

After a few minutes later my group to decide to make a  plant about what 4 aspects we should do first. So the first part of the Aurora that we chose was Taha Tinana, Taha Tinana is how to be Physically healthy. If you want to be physically healthy then you should exercise more often but don't get too tired because your body also gets tired.

The second part of the Aurora that we chose was Taha whanau, Taha Whanau is how can you hang out with your family for a long time. If you love your family then you should always stay with them because once they get older you will no longer see them.

The third one that we chose is Taha Hinengaro. Taha Hinengaro is how we fill and act. So if you are feeling sad or lonely you should take a break for a few hours so that your mind and your body can relax.

The last Part of the Aurora that we chose is the Taha Wairua. Taha wairua which means Spiritual. Is a matter of including values and belief which is parts of your minds.

I chose to make a puppet that is Gordon Ramsay, Axle which is my group member he chose to make Vito Corleone. Finally, my last group members named van chose to make a Kaneki which is an anime character.

Charlesworth reserve

Yesterday day July 3th our Comunity Impact project went on a trip to Charlesworth reserve. Why did we go there you ask? We go there to plant some trees so that when the tree gets older it will get some carbon Dioxide to the atmosphere. We started the day by going to the classroom and waiting for the other class to come in, we wait for a little bit but not so long. After a few minutes, all of us is gathered in our classroom.

It was time to leave school and go to the Charlesworth reserve, we ride the bus then we start our trip. Yesterday was so fun because once we arrive at the Charlesworth reserve we are gonna eat first for our morning tea then we will start the planting. Some of the tree that we plant was the Rush, and more. If you don't know what a Rush is,  it's like a medium size bush but the grass is so tall and brown.

After a few hours, we stop again for another break, that break is for our lunchtime. So then we eat, after other several minutes, we finish eating. After we finish eating we ride the bus again then go straight to the back of mitre10.

We went to mitre10 because we need to clean some rubbish that some drunk people threw, for example, A alcohol bottle, Plastic, bike helmet, and some more rubbish. We were not allowed to pick up the broken glass because it can probably harm us so our kind teacher did it for us. We wear gloves to pick up rubbish so that our hands don't get to be dirty, even though we wear gloves at the end of the section we had sanitizer.

Finally, it was time to go back to school and have a little rest. If you want to visit the Charlesworth reserve try not to step on the plants because the plants are helpful for our environment.
