This week in film study we have 2 choose 1 task to do. The first task that was given to us was to select two lead characters and create a challenges chart. Then the second one was Create a resume for the 2 lead characters. I chose to do the first task because I found it easier to do, and more enjoyable. The 2 lead characters that I did was the other wybie and the other mother. They are both in the other world which was nicer in the real world.
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 9 and in 2021 I will be a year 10. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Addiction on the mind & Body- Alcohol
During the past several weeks in health, our teacher gave us a lot of various topics that we can choose to do. My friend and I decided to do Addiction on the mind & body (alcohol). Once we have finished deciding what topic to do the second task that we now need to do is choose five questions that we then answer later. My friend and I task were to answer that five question and explain them to how to improve it. Afterwards, once we have finished answering the five-question our last task was to create an activity or make something that you can present.
5 BIG questions | Tick when completed |
Why is it harmful? | ✅ |
What needs to change? | ✅ |
Who can or can’t drink alcohol? | ✅ |
How do you become an alcoholic? | ✅ |
How do we minimise harm? | ✅ |
Strategies | What the strategies are | What areas of wellbeing the strategy will improve and how | Short term and/or long term |
Strategy 1 | Drink water or other non-alcohol drinks between alcoholic drinks or just drink non-alcoholic drinks in general. | Taha hinengaro, Taha wairua, Taha whanau and Taha tinana | Long term |
Strategy 2 | Avoid high percentage of drinks cause this means they have more alcohol in them. | Taha hinengaro, Taha wairua, Taha whanau and Taha tinana | Long term |
Strategy 3 | Eat some food before and while drinking, to slow your drinking pace and slow the absorption of alcohol. | Taha hinengaro, Taha wairua, Taha whanau and Taha tinana | Long term |
We present our topic by using visme and creating art about it. We chose to do visme and art because we think that it will look good when we present it. I'm sure that I have worked really well with a classmate, I am really happy with the presentation that we have made.
Here it is:

Film Study, 2020, Freytags Pyramid
This Friday in Film study, our teacher gave us 2 tasks that we can choose from. The first task that we have to do was using Venngage we have to create a timeline of key plot points that occurred in the visual text. At each point give a brief explanation of what happens and how that affected the direction of the story. The second task that was given to us is to create a Freytag's pyramid to show the progress of the plot of our visual text. I chose to make a Freytag's pyramid because I found that easier to do.
What am I wondering? I am wondering to analyse the plot of a film.
How does this work show my learning? This shows my learning by explaining how the film plot is constructed to engage a viewer using technical language.
What am I wondering as a result of this learning? For the result of this learning, I am wondering to learn more about Freytag's Pyramid.
Year 9 ESOL, Halloween project DLO
Last week in ESOL, our task was to make a DLO about 1 mythical from our country. I and Vann work together to create a DLO about Kumakatok. Kumakatok is 3 door knocker that looks like a human. They go to your house when someone is ill in your household.
Here is the video we made with Flexclip:
Music Sexxxy paragraph
On Tuesday for Inside and out, our task was to make a constructed paragraph that shows how does music enhance the story. I made a sexxxy paragraph explaining it works.
Here is my paragraph:
In Coraline, a lot of different techniques were used in the film. One of them is music, music was used effectively to describe the feeling and the character. This is shown by the opening scene of Coraline which had major chords and average tempo to generate calm dynamics. These make the audience feel relaxed and comfy. The purpose of this is to present who created the film, this works well with the background music and the name that was recorded. The sound reminds me of peaceful music.

Blog about my experience dissecting the heart
What have we been learning? For the past few days in science, we have been learning what is a circulatory system and also how to dissect a heart. We are doing this to learn how does a heart work and their function are.
Why are we dissecting heart? We are dissecting the heart so that we can learn all those labels and functions that we have learnt.
What are the parts of the heart? Did you see them?
Atrium - The atrium is the upper chamber of the heart that receives blood.
Ventricle - The ventricle is responsible for pumping the blood away from the heart.
Valves - The purpose of the valves is to move the blood around the body.
Pulmonary Artery - The right ventricle artery which pumps oxygen to the lungs.
The two-part of the heart that we did not see is the vein and the atrium because it got cut off.
Did you enjoy the dissection? Why/ Why not? I did enjoy the dissection because I've learnt a lot of different things that I did not know yet.

How does lighting & Colour enhance the story?
How does lighting & Colour' enhance the story?
In this scene, we see that the bug changes the colour of the surroundings by having different colours to their body, the orange lamp that is on the left side of the wall also made the room change colour by the orange lighting. Medium shot and the medium-long shot was used in this picture, for the lighting it is very cold and for the colour is very bright. In this picture, the effect for the viewer is having a clear vision to look at. The director chose this location because it brings bright colour in the film to compare the real world to the other world.
We see in this second picture that the colour is different from the other world. The colour that we see in this picture is very warm, it has white surrounding blending with a yellow cupboard that looks like the sun is very bright out side. What is happening in this picture is that Coraline is talking about the secret door that she had found, but know on believe her yet. Her mum and dad are really busy doing work, every night Coraline go to the secret door that she has found. That is when she meets her other mother and other father, in the other world her parents are really nice to her, she always gets what she wants.
This is the scene where Coraline refuses to put the button on her eyes, that’s when she had realised that her other mother from the other world is really scary. The lighting is very cold because the colour that they used in the movie to make this scene is bright purple followed by the red drawers at the background.
What am I learning? I am learning how to describe the lighting and the colour of the movie.
How does this work show my learning? This shows my learning by learning how to describe colour and lighting.
What am I wondering as a result of this learning? For the result of this learning, I am wondering how other colour work for the other movie.

(Sexxxy Paragraph) Camera angle and Camera shots
This time on Social study our task was to make a Sexxy paragraph by choosing 4 picture from Coraline scene. I have chosen 4 pictures that are from the scene, once we have finished choosing 4 picture the next thing that we need to do is write a Sexxxy Paragraph.
Here is the sexxxy paragraph that I have made:
Photos: | Camera Angle: |
S: In Coraline, point of view was used effectively to show the theme of “Looks can be deceiving”. E: For example, this shot we are introduced to Coraline. Point of view and dutch tilt is used to show where the character was standing, looking under a table. X: This made us understand that Coraline is looking for something variable. X: The director did this to show that if its something special is missing doesn’t get tired finding it because soon you will be able to find it. X: Coinciding with the camera angle ( which is the point of view and dutch tilt ) this made the movie better to watch because it feels like that you are in virtual reality. Y: This aspect can be compared to Charlie ( the cat) which found the mouse that was hiding the lost button when Coraline and Beldam where playing hide and seek.
S: In Coraline, Medium close up was used effectively to show the theme of “Be careful what you wish for”. E: This is demonstrated by medium close-up and close-up where Coraline was standing up beside her other mother. X: This made the audience a little bit creep out because of Coraline who is standing right beside her other mother. It’s a little bit scary because you don’t know what the other mother will do next to Coraline. X: This was done to make us feel nervous and build anxiety in our body. But no need to worry because everything will be alright at the end. X: This work well with the music and the colours that blend with the characters, making the scene more creepy. Y: This scene reminds me of always be thankful for what you have because someday you will probably regret the choice that you thought it was good.
S: In Coraline close-up was used effectively to show the theme of “Be grateful with what you have”. E: We see this when using the close up to show that Coraline is standing in the door getting attention from his dad (Charlie Jones). X: This makes us understand that Coraline wants attention from his dad who is doing a lot of works, you can tell this because of his eye. X: This was done to tell us to always care of other people that just need a little attention and not ignoring them when they need you. X: Combined with this is the fact that it makes the scene sadder because of the music and that Coraline looks depressed in the background. Y: This aspect can be compared to the other world where his dad is more playful but has evil feelings at the end.
S: In Coraline medium shot and the medium-long shot was used effectively to show the theme of “Don’t judge the book by its cover”. E: We see this when the dad is trying to talk to Mel jones but the mother doesn’t really care. X: This makes the audience think that her mother doesn’t really like her husband so she just ignores him. X: The purpose of this is to show everyone that even when you are busy doing work make sure to not ignore others. X: Coinciding with this is the fact that her mother looks angry at Coraline and Charlie jones. Y: This aspect can be compared to the other mother which is really kind to Coraline and the other father, but the only bad thing is that she is bad when you don’t follow instruction. Like when she said “Put this button if you want to be in our family”. |
What Am I learning? I am learning to define the language of film using visual & sounds techniques.
How does this show my learning? This shows my learning by Explaining how a camera shots, and sounds and visual techniques are used to help tell the story using the example from the text.
What am I wondering as a result of this learning? For this result of my learning, I am wondering to learn more about another movie.
CMM Drill Gauge
In metal, for the past few days, we have started making our project called drill gauge. We have been doing this project since halfway through the term of term 3. The site that we have start using for this is tinkercad. Tinkercad is a site that you can build 3D modeling programs that runs in a web browser.
When we were making a drill gauge I have notice that in your first try making it there will be a lot of fail. But as you try and try again you will start to success the work or the plan you want to have.
The first drill gauge that we made was made out of acrylic then after that we made the drill gauge out of alimunium.
Here is the picture of the work that I have made.

Bones in the hands- Hurumanu 2
Last week in science we have been learning how do hands work, we made a hand to show you how it works. The hand has lots of parts which are Bones, Joints, Muscles, Tendons, and ligaments. These are all the parts that make your hand move. Bones is really helpful for us human because it helps us provide support.
How do hands work? The movements of the hand are always started by the muscles in your forearm. Hands have a lot of things that help human beings one is we use our hand to write or hold something that is heavy or not.
The human hand is made up of the wrist, palm, and fingers and has 27 bones, 27 joints, 34 muscles, and over 100 ligaments, and tendons, and many blood vessels and nerves.
Here is the demo that we did for our hand.
