Chrotomagraphy

Aim: To separate colours by using the process of chromatography.

A technique for separating the different parts of a mixture/solid using liquid.

Rainbow paper

Materials;

  1. Black felt pen
  2. Red felt pen
  3. Green felt pen
  4. Liquid
  5. Container
  6. Filter paper

Process:

Step 1:  Rule a 2 cm line at the top of the Filter paper
Step 2:  Draw a 1 cm line at the bottom of the Filter paper
Step 3: Put a tiny amount of water in the Container
Step 4: Put 3 dots in a different colour in the 1 cm line
Step 5: Fold the top of the filter paper where there is 2 cm dot
Step 6: Hang the filter paper in the container
Step 7: Watch the colour go up the filter paper

Reflection:

What happens is that the three colour dot that was in the Filter paper goes up because when the liquid touch the filter paper it will then touch the three dot colour. So when the water goes up it will go with the colour too.

I really like this science experiment because I learned that when the water touches the colour it will go up with the water. I'm really excited for our next experiment.
